Adventure #220

It is time for another travel adventure. Matty and Elsie journey once again to Italy. We just cannot get enough. We finally visited the Cinque Terre, which means five towns or lands, located on the coast of northern Italy. A little back story, Matt visited the Cinque Terre during his first trip to Europe, without Elise. Since our travel adventures began the Cinque Terre has always been a top priority. We have even booked hotels, but flights or train schedules have always cancelled our plans. Not this time baby! Let's begin. Matt and I wake up super early to catch a seven o'clock flight to New York. We land at the new Terminal Four. Which we are really exited about since the old terminal had birds flying around inside and big plastic sheets with hoses to catch the water leaking from the ceiling. But most importantly there is a Shake Shack. For the first time we were able to try their hamburgers and shakes. Yummy! Then we boarded our plane to Milan. Matt and I did not sleep at all. So we were pretty exhausted when we landed at seven in the morning. We took the train from the airport to Milan's main train station. Then we bought tickets to the Cinque Terre. It took us all day to get there. We waited two hours in Milan for our train to leave, the ride was three hours to Sestri Levante, where we waited one hour to switch trains, and finally one more hour to Riomaggiore, which is the last town in the Cinque Terre. So by the time we arrived it was four o'clock. We found our hotel and checked into our room, which is in another building around the corner and up some stairs. The first picture is of me outside our room imitating a dinosaur, because I am tied of plane and train rides.     

We walked down to the marina to explore, however since it is November it is almost dark. 

The sign in the picture below says, "Area by the sea." Insert "You don't say," meme. 

So we went to the Cinque Terre during a very non-tourist time of the year. Which means many restaurants and stores are closed. Thankfully a different restaurant was open for us to eat at every night. And even though we only had one option, the food was still amazing. Pictured below is my pesto and Matt's gnocchi. We also had a pizza and a panna cotta for dessert.

The next morning we explored Riomaggiore.

We took a pathway into the hills to visit a church. I could not believe how green it was. 

We passed this amazing little house with a beautiful orange tree. Of course it started pouring rain. So we decided to turn around. As soon as we got off the hill it stopped raining.

We explored the rest of Riomaggiore and walked back down to the marina.
