On June 3rd, 2015, Matt and Elise celebrated their Ten Year Anniversary! What and Wow!? Ten years. Ten marvelous years. Time is such an interesting phenomenon. Fast, slow, fast, slow. To celebrate our time together, we did what we enjoy the most, travel. We were finally able to visit South America for the first time and our first country was Argentina, specifically the city of Buenos Aires. We left Las Vegas for Atlanta on the 2nd and arrived to Buenos Aires on our anniversary. We had no issues with our flights or entering the country even with our visas that we purchased online for $160 per person. While at the airport we bought a Sube Card at a magazine stand to ride the subway in the city. We were able to find a cab driver to take us into the city for only $30. We arrived to our hotel in the San Telmo neighborhood. We were able to check in early and the gentleman at the front desk was very helpful. We explored our hotel since there were several nice outdoor spaces. In fact our room door opened to the outside which was nice for the natural light but also an excellent window for people to look in.
We set out from our hotel to explore San Telmo and walked towards Puerto Madero, the neighborhood by the water.
This silly mural of a donkey on a bicycle became my landmark for making the turn back to our hotel.
While in Puerto Madero we visited the Puente de la Mujer or Women's Bridge, which is a swing bridge that rotates at a 90 degree angle to allow boats to pass.
After visiting the bridge we took our first ride on the subway using our previously bought Sube card. Then we walked towards the MALBA.
The MALBA was probably the most modern art museum we have ever been to, since there was live art which was strange and awesome at the same time.
While visiting a gentleman asked Matt what time is was and what was his name. He then proceeded to write the time and Matt's name on the wall of the museum.
We also saw our first Frida Kahlo painting.
After the MALBA we walked around the city. We bought our first Argentinian ice cream, which is supposed to be similar to gelato, since there are so many Italian emigrants living in Buenos Aires. I tried dulce de leche since it is the favorite flavor and I was definitely a fan.
We braved the subway during rush hour. We had to wait on the platform for the third train that came by before we crammed ourselves inside. We went to dinner at a restaurant called Desnivel, where we had a delicious anniversary meal. The atmosphere was very hole in the wall, my favorite.
I ordered flan with dulce de leche for dessert. I love the picture below. This is the face of Matt with a full stomach and a giant plate of flan in front of him, however I made the sacrifice and ate most of it.
