The funicular was not on, so we decided to walk up the hill. And what a hill. Walking up large hills ends up being a reoccurring theme in Barcelona.
On the top of Mt. Tibidabo there is an amusement park and a catholic church. We came to see the church called Temple de Sagrat Cor. Even though the church looks old it was not finished until 1961. Which by Europe standards is like brand new. I like that the crypt and the upper church are so different from each other.
Since we were on top of the largest hill in Barcelona there were some great views of the city. It was also extremely windy.
By this time the funicular was running so we decided to save ourselves a long walk and take the funicular down the hill.
Then we rode the metro to find Park Guell. We went the wrong way and walked all over another huge hill thinking we were in the right park. Finally, Matt asked an older gentlemen how to get there. I did not understand what he was saying but by the look on his face I knew we were in the completely wrong place. So after some time we figured out how to get to the right park. It was fine in the end though since we found a delicious sandwich place and ate pitas on a bench overlooking the city.
Park Guell was super cool. The entrance was designed by Antoni Gaudi. The buildings are unique and colorful. There is a huge bench at the top made of broken tiles creating a mosaic, also designed by Gaudi. Definitely a new favorite park.
