Adventure #124

On our next day in Italy Matt and I took another train ride to the town of Pisa. We wandered through the town and by the river.

We came to Pisa to see the Campo dei Miracoli or Field of Miracles. What is in this field? Pisa's Duomo, Baptistry, and Leaning Tower. The three buildings together are amazing. Alright. Now for some history on the leaning tower. Yeah. History. Work on the tower began in 1173 on sandy soil. Oops. The tower started to tilt before the third story was even finished. In 1995 the tilt was at the max of 17 feet 6 inches from vertical. What? The tilt was recently decreased by 14 inches and a shallow stone block has been placed under the tower to stop it from tilting farther.

Alright. So the next picture needs some explanation. Matt and I think it is really funny when people pose for a picture so that it appears as though they are holding up the leaning tower. It looks like people are doing yoga positions. (Sorry of you are one of those people.) So Matt took my picture holding up the leaning tower, but being completely off.

Matt and I had pizza and gelato before taking the train back to Florence. We walked around Florence and ate dinner at a place called La Taverna. Pizza again. Delicious.
